recovering and doing well

After week 1 beiing back on track, week 2 beiing yuck...week 3 I fell sick with the flu.
Why is it that when I am sick, I don't lose my apetite? Not only was I too sick to exercise (and go to work), but not sick enough to eat?! Why was my throat so damn sore I couldn't swallow...but I could swallow my food? And why when you are sick and you want to eat, why do you crave all those things you shouldn't eat???

But despite that, I have recovered, and I have been exercising, and I have been doing well on the food side too. I haven't tracked, and I know I need to, I haven't planned my food like I did week 1...but I know I am eating my 5 vege, 2 fruit, eating high protein and fibre foods, low GI carbs and watching the portions.

My exercise has included pump, boxing, bootcamp, bodycombat, boxercise. I have felt a bit tight in the chest doing some of the exercise due to the flu, but pulled up well. The boxing (kimax it is called at the gym) almost made me spew...OMG it is soo hard. I did boxercise with the guy who runs the bootcamp tonight. It was good, he made me work (better then the bootcamp), and he got me moving my hips properly so I got a lot of power in my punch...proud to say I hit the hardest amongst the 11 of us there. There was too much waiting around unfortunately, but on the whole I got a good workout.

I have yet to weigh myself, I would hope that maybe I have lost 1kg, but surely not a gain! I think i am scared to weigh, I feel good, I can see it in my stomach, I can feel it in my clothes...and I know that is better then scales, but we all know, you work your butt off (hopefully literally) to lose on the scales...and it is disappointing if you don't get it.

I will make Wednesday next week my weigh in day.

Here is to good health! :)

bad week

So after a good first week, second week was no good.
Didn't help being sick. Daughter being sick. So much happening with house, work issues, lots of things...but all the food issues could have been dealt with if I could exercise...but at the moment breathing is a slight issue for me...so no exercise...AT ALL.
I'm already exhausted, needed a nap at 10:30 this morning...my daughter heard me breathing (or lack of) and shoved the spacer on my face and puffed ventolin into me, and I barely recognised she was doing it...and this is without any drugs for this stupid flu. So what would exercise do to me? EXHAUSTION PLUS!!!!

Back to the ventolin thing...the worst of it...i am allergic to ventolin. So now I am suffering with a headache...i can feel the wrinkles in my forehead setting in as it struggles with the pain. the last time i had a ventolin headache was about 15 years ago and it lasted a week...I so hope it will disappear before then. Before my dr and I worked out the cause of my headaches, i was booked in for catscans...it was the last minute and i clicked that they occurred everytime I took ventolin. Apparently I am a 1:1000000 sufferer...and everyone tells me that it is better to have a headache then to not breathe. Well...for those who don't have headaches like this, i can see your point...but when I can manage my asthma incredibly well, and the last time I had an attack was about 20 years ago and the last time I got truly wheezy was probably 7 years ago...I would rather suffer with a bit of wheeziness then have a headache...it is so not worth this!
Thankfully I normally take other stuff, but since losing my weight I have not needed to use it, well barely.

So I must look at this week, and realise that yes it was one week. tomorrow, I am back on track, watching my food intake knowing i cannot exercise, but not suffering asthma is just one of the benefits for keeping the weight off and losing more weight.

Now to let my gorgeous 3 year old know the dangers of sharing medication! Drug education starts young!

Sick girl...bad splurge, but surprisingly still doing it!

DD had NO sleep last night. Which meant mum and dad had NO SLEEP last night.
Woke up to a snoring girl in my bed who couldn't breathe...then suddenly she woke up with a blood nose.

Her breathing was just horrid.
So took her to the Dr. who said she had something stuck up her nose, a blue thing, and it was restricting her breathing. Told to take her to emergency at the hospital. Kept trying to ask her what she put up there, but she said nothing was up there. hmmm...

went to emergency and they were brilliant. but nobody could see what this blue thing was, couldn't see anything. had xrays...nothing. But her breathing was terrible. Had ventolin and atrovent and breathing better. 3 hours in there for observation, a white sullen out of breathe child clinging to her mummy became rosey cheeked, excited and couldn't stop talking...to absolutely out of it and fell asleep in my arms.

It was a precious moment.

Sucker mum then went and bought her a mermaid dress and a new barbie movie. Well, she is sick!!!

We also had donuts, coffee and then my food plan for the night, lamb shanks went out the door because it was too late to put them on. So we had gnocchi instead. I didn't realise the points on gnocchi!

So my perfectly planned points for the day, ended up being 46! WOW!
I was supposed to go to a class and a get a weights program done, which i couldn't do with DD there, and i had to be there for her. But i went to combat tonight. I am unco with the moves, but I don't find it hard, even though i do it high intensity. Whereas Kimax (boxing) was bloody hard and i could NOT do it high intensity the whole time.
Anyway, I only put a value of 3 points in for exercise.
So even with a huge 47 points, I still was nowhere near my 49  points for the week. Wrapped! Because I was sticking to the points, planned, I was able to keep a lot of extras up and I did well.
Did I lose weight? The gnocchi i can still feel in belly says no. but it isn't about that. It is about being back on track, having my reason for it.

And now, it looks like my girl has asthma. So I think it is really important that as an asthmatic, i show her that we can still do exercise. I don't use asthma as an excuse to not walk, not run...and neither will she. she can't! She needs to know that we have to know our asthma triggers and avoid them...so for me an over indulgence on dairy (cheese and thickshakes!) is a no go. And of course that helps with the weight! So her having asthma means I have to be an even better role model for her!

today was pretty emotional for me. I nearly didn't go to combat, i was buggered. I ate donuts, and I nearly pulled the plug. But I came out of it alive, I did it, and although I already know how much I love my little princess, gees today really bought it home for me. The times I just think "Aaargh, you are driving me crazy....if i hear the word Mummy, one more time I will scream "etc...today just let me know how lucky I am that I have her to drive me crazy, and Mummy is a nice word...especially when she searches for my hand to hold when she is scared!
I love you my fairy princess!

I am doing it!

Well, I planned all evening meals, up to Thursday this week coming. And I have stuck to it, except changing steak to fish last night.
So really pleased that I have stuck to it.

Hubby has hidden all the chips, and he isn't bringing them out when I am around. He also hid the smarties he bought (why must he buy them???) so I CANNOT attack them!

I went to the casino on Friday night for a retirement. I never go out like that, and stuck to my guns. I planned to have 2 glasses of wine only, and that is exactly what I had. They were spaced out a lot too. I also didn't over eat at the buffet for dinner. I stayed away from all the breads and just had one small baked potato and hardly a serve of pasta (maybe two tablespoons worth!) then everything else i had was pretty healthy, and portioned as much as i could! (except for the icecream... but it is an indulgence I don't normally have...and I had my 49 points to spare!)

I also had 2 glasses of wine last night, They were also spaced out a lot, one with dinner at 6:30 which took about an hour to drink and one at about 9:30.

Had a breakfast buffet thing this morning, lucky it wasn't very nice so I didn't over indulge, but was still full  at lunch time, just had something light. Having squid and salad tonight...planned that to make up for the indulgence at breaky. Haven't even needed a snack in between meals, so that is a good feeling!

Went to bootcamp yesterday morning. I am glad I have given it up, only 3 more left. It isn't that I don't like it, I do, and I like the people...It really doesn't push me THAT much. It is not a proper bootcamp, it is outdoor circuit work. It isn't easy, but it doesn't push me as hard as what Step Into Life used too. And it doesn't encourage me to do anything extra or watch what I eat. Whereas with Step Into Life, if I ate bad, I felt it. I needed to run outside of my class, or I wouldn't cope...and I wanted to! Now it is a bit lack lustre!

Joining the gym is a huge change for me. I haven't been back since Tuesday, but I knew I wouldn't be.
I am going tomorrow morning...Daughter is in creche there for 2 hours...I am planning on settling her in (as she has never been before), go and do a little bit on the cardio, do a kimax class (boxing circuit) then a little bit more of cardio or maybe even do somethings on the fitball.
Tuesday I will go in for another class, Power, which is a cardio/pump class I think, and I also have a session with the trainer for her to set up a weights plan for me.
I am also going to go tuesday night for combat, which works out well having a weights class and a cardio class in the one day.

Another thing that is making a difference, is I am really focusing on water. I probably drink one glass, sometimes none, in a day, especially in winter. And this week I have made a huge effort to get to the 2litres. Not always getting exactly 2L but certainly more then 1 glass! So huge improvement there...also going to the toilet lots so must be flushing the system out well! :-P

Already today, when I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed that my stomach was looking and feeling better. I have felt it to be quite bloated lately. well since I started putting on the weight, so since march. And now it is not so much! I haven't weighed myself, will wait for maybe two weeks before I do that. I really want to focus on just how I feel. The trainer wants me to do that too, look at my body and how I look and feel in clothes, not so much my weight.

So all going well. I really want to get back to being healthier. I have noticed my skin isn't as good, and I have some chaffing when I wear a skirt/dress, whereas I didn't have that during summer. I am also worried that maybe the extra weight is what is making my knees hurt when I run. So lose the weight and hopefully I will either eliminate the pain, or eliminate one possible cause and then I know it is something else!

Doing it again to feel better, look better and be better!

Off TRACK big time

Wow! How off track am I?!
May was my last post...so now basically in September!

I am now weighing...well on my scales 88.6. At the gym i just joined I am 86.8. I prefer their scales!!!

What have I been doing? Eating. I drink maybe 3 times a week, only 2 glasses of red...but it all adds up.

I have been exercising. Bootcamp (well, outdoor circuit) and boxing. I love boxing. i have nearly thrown up a few times, it is so hard! I do the beginners class, and i struggle!

Unfortunately, boxing is just too far away. So I joined a gym that is a lot closer.

At the gym I will be doing Kimax (boxing circuit) twice a week, combat once and another one. I might interchange kimax one time with a spin class.

I also had an assessment by Bec, a trainer. She has encouraged me to pull out all my weight watchers material and start using the recipes for planning each week, and tracking. Well, even a PT agrees with WW. It isn't that I don't agree with them...weight watchers is fantastic. I just lost my weigh. it was too hard!

But you know what...being fat is too hard. So I would prefer to work hard at being slender and fit, then giving up.

So starting over. Steps to starting over:
1. joined gym. Been to assessment, 30 minute run on treadmill and combat class already.

2.Started over on Sunday with the city to surf. Struggled up the hills, could only walk as my knees (left in particular) was just dead.
Considering that, i ran the 12km in 1:29:10 so very pleased.

3. Started tracking today.

4. Told hubby to hide all chips etc, put them up high and out of sight and DON'T bring them out in front of me!.

5. will plan meals for rest of week this afternoon.

So Doing It TAKE 2 has STARTED! :)

14km Fun Run

I completed the Perth HBF 14k fun run today. WOW! A great event with a supportive crowd...some organisational mishaps, particularly trains running 20 minutes behind and buses not being efficient enough to take us all to the event...
but over all a great event!

I was hoping to run the majority of the run....it was a reasonably flat course, and whilst I hadn't ran over 5km this year, last week I went on an 11km run with hills, and only had to walk a very short time due to sand, and had to stop twice for a stretch...so was hoping to run most...maybe 12km...

Well, sometimes you can just surprise yourself when you push yourself! I ran the whole 14km and the last 300m I really ran...I would say sprint...but others would say slightly faster then a shuffle! But my shuffle over took about 10 people, so I was really happy!

My knees absolutely killed...still do. I think I have well and truly done over the kms my shoes should do! New shoes on the horizon!
some deep heat before bed tonight.
And need to stay warm...it is getting cold lately and my muscles are feeling it! So must stay warm!

I got a little bit of chaffing  right up the top of my inner thigh where the seam to my skins were. never had that happen before. I so hope the redness is gone by tomorrow! I have bootcamp!

I don't have my official time as yet but I came in under 1 hour 40 and I think I am expecting a time around 1 hour 33mins. I am really happy with coming in under 1 hour 40mins. It shows that whilst I haven't bee training like I was, I am still fit. I have picked up my fitness to what it was, and I can do it!

I haven't weighed myself for a week, but I am pretty sure I am staying around 82kg...looking forward to heading back down to the 70s!!!

For now...rest, relax, recover!!!

A New Start

Bootcamp. I thought I would be dead after it. I thought I would be dead during it. Especially when my fitness has dropped off so much...trying to exercise on your own is very similar to trying to follow an eating program on your own. Nobody there to challenge you, push you, be accountable to. It is hard. It is easy to say "I'm too tired, too cold, too cosy, too busy, too busy watching tv, too I can't be bothered (yes we even admit it to ourselves when we know we should!) too it is too dark outside, too late, too early, too windy, too...." gee think of the excuse and without a partner or a group to push me, I will come up with an excuse!
In saying that, I always manage to get out and do a run/walk at least twice a week...but a lot different to what I used to do!
So in comes Boot camp!
It was pretty easy. I put this down to a few things...
1. whilst I am unfit, there are people who are more so then me and the majority of the group of 20 were in that group, not my group!
2. The trainer didn't know me, didn't know how much to push me...and without being pushed, i wont push myself! No...i did push myself against the girl who was probably fitter me...i kept up with all running with her, and everything, but then, can i do more then that?
3. It was the first session he was going easy on us??!
Whilst bootcamp was easy...when I woke up last tuesday morning, ouch. i was sore! Wednesday I was still sore!!! I hadn't used my arm muscles in a long time, even my tummy muscles had been been limited to exercise. So I obviously got a work out!

So doing bootcamp did kick me into gear. I enjoyed it, and I went out did my own exercise during the week. I ran my 2.5km route and equalled my best time of 11m:28s. I walked/jogged the dog twice. And yesterday I did an 11km run, with hills! My legs hurt afterwards...my knees...I am getting old! Or trying to exercise when I was fat really did some damage! I would say that is it! I have a 14km fun run on sunday, the first one for the year for me...that is pretty slack of me...I have missed 4 fun runs already.

so bootcamp was the burst I needed. the new start. the kicking me into gear to do more exercise. And best of all, doing the exercise is making me watch my food intake. I don't want to eat too much/eat crap/drink lots if I am doing all this work exercising. what a waste it would be. So it is working! I am not counting points, but i have been very conscious of what I am eating.

After putting on 6kg in 5 weeks, I lost 1kg this week. So 5 to go to get back to my lightest...and 3 more to go to get back into the 70s. damn i never thought I would go back in the 80s!

Another thing I am looking forward to is boxing. I got a scoopoun for $19 for a 10 week boxing circuit program. $1.90 a session. I got 2 lots, one for me and one for my hubby. I cannot wait! It sounds harder then bootcamp!

I am also starting netball again next week. New team as we have moved...it is 5 a side and mixed and it is HARD. I will be playing mainly Centre so I am wrapped. fitness will be back to where it was! :)

I am also going to start incorporating our build into my blog. We are still waiting for titles on our land, but it is coming along and I will have photos and other stuff!

:) New start going well :)
